sorted byExposed metal work supports became live, which was a bit fruity when sharpening your cold chisel.
Took it apart and the earth wasn't even connected (no screw. Obvious from lead it'd never been connected). Even when fixed the inadequate cable got hot so replaced with a thicker one and it's now 'ok', if relegated to polishing spindles & occasional use.
Caveat emptor.
You pays yer money...
